We share the idea of “slow journalism”: we do not chase news hooks, we create them ourselves; we prefer telling an important story to hunting for a sensation.
Young writers need a way in
Journalism, like many creative fields, is built in a way that often requires experience or connections just to get started. To get published, you already need publications. We know how difficult this is, and we want to help young writers.
We are building a journalistic community
Although journalism has inspired many books, films and stories, we also have to admit that it can be a toxic environment. We want Russia to continue to have a strong journalistic community. We strive to create and strengthen professional connections.
We burn with the blue flame of journalism
Our texts are not only an attempt to understand a problem, but also a moment of creativity and self-expression. We strive to hear each of our writers and amplify their voice.
We stand against all forms of discrimination
Our team includes people of different nationalities, ages and views. We value diversity and treat our differences with respect.
We teach and we learn
We love learning and believe that sharing experience within the community is essential — both with mentors and with one another. We regularly invite authors of important Russian-language longreads to talk about their work.
Who are our reports about?
- We believe it is important to tell stories about Russia from inside Russia.
- We focus on reporting from the regions because there are already far more stories about life in major cities.
- We want to tell stories about groups of people who often remain invisible.
